The pond and garden area at Weetwood Primary School required a much needed spring clean so the children could enjoy learning and exploring outside again. The whole team got stuck in to removing wheelbarrow loads of pond weed, clearing out a greenhouse for the Gardening Club, constructing a fence and moving some extremely heavy flower beds.
The children also did a great job of planting some bluebells to create a woodland area. Our hard work was rewarded when the resident ducks returned to the pond that afternoon and some new tadpoles were released.
Last year we tackled the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and raised over £2,000 for Candlelighters. Based in Yorkshire, Candlelighters provide essential practical, emotional and financial support and services to children with cancer and their families. The charity is formed and run by parents of children who have or have had cancer, ex-patients and the medical staff who treat them. We have supported Candlelighters since 2013, and it’s been fantastic to see the charity grow to help even more families in recent years.
