8-year-old Jimmy organised a fun run with classmates to raise money for Candlelighters during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Great to see the next generation picking up the fundraising bug. Jimmy, our Director’s son, organised his first event for Candlelighters – a fun run around his school playground. The event was a real success, with children pushing themselves to complete as many laps as they could and tackling obstacles along the way. We’re waiting to hear how much they all raised, but we have a feeling it’s going to be a fantastic amount!
There were certificates, medals, buns and stickers for all who took part, and a huge round of applause from very proud parents. If you want to donate to 8-year-old Jimmy’s JustGiving page you can do so here – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rob-hawes5

Candlelighters have recently been working on an exciting project which is now nearing completion – the Candlelighters Cottage. The cottage is designed to offer a home from home for the families of children going through treatment.
Leeds General Infirmary treats children from all over Yorkshire, with some families facing long journeys and a dramatic rise in transport costs just to visit and bring their children for treatment. We’ve recently learnt some parents even resort to sleeping in their cars. The Candlelighters Cottage is looking to put an end to this and provide a welcoming, comfortable place to let parents and siblings support one another and get much-needed rest.
